Sophia LaVonne's passion for the genre defying arts led her to study at NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study where she received a grant for the duration of her time to contribute to the school's performing arts program. Simultaneously, she was street dancing in New York City's subway, battling, and training in both acting and dance.

Sophia received training in acting at Anthony Meindl Studio, Alexander Tech Works, and Terry Schreiber Studios, and training in dance under members of Elite Force, Fosse originals, Electric Boogaloos, Portland Ballet Theatre, and Brian Green. She holds a degree from NYU's 

Gallatin School of Individualized Study where she received a grant to develop the school's first dance technique program which combined teachers from the underground, commercial, and broadway worlds.

While attending school in the mecca of street dance, she decided to try to pay for part of her tuition by performing on the subway. After several years, let's just say it made a small dent ;) This experience kicked off her curiosity in the the international street dance scene, which led her to train further under the worlds' greats, teach overseas, and eventually gain industry recognition.

Sophia went on to land featured roles as an actress and movement artist in live shows for Baz Luhrmann, Moscow Opera House, multiple Lincoln Centre productions, several off Broadway Theatres, and at The Apollo Theatre. You can catch her dancing in productions on Netflix, FX, E! Network, Vogue, SNL, several global commercials, and her choreography for Nike Industrials, BETs Wild Out Wednesday, TruTV, and Marc Jacobs. Her work as an actor and dancer continues to span film, TV, theatre, and experimental works.

She has choreographed for Nike Industrials, BETs Wild Out Wednesday, TruTV, Adidas, and Marc Jacobs. 

 

Through her studies at NYU, shadowing an Oscar nominated producer, and interning at Michel Gondry's Partizan Pictures, Sophia has also stepped behind the camera; her works have been published worldwide on billboards and in print, and she continues to create as part of the artist collective For Feels. Regardless of the medium, her presence and work is characterized by her pursuit of connecting individuals to their own raw feeling, as well as to one other. She looks forward to continuing to bring her zest for experimentation, versatile industry experience, and passionate commitment to heighten each creative vision.

Theatrically, she has had featured roles as an actor (and movement artist) in live shows for Baz Luhrmann, at Moscow Opera House, Lincoln Centre, The Apollo Theatre, and Fringe Festival. She has choreographed for Nike Industrials, BETs Wild Out Wednesday, TruTV, Adidas, and Marc Jacobs; as well as judged internationally within the street dance world.
